Two forest springs BARBORKA AND VITULKA can be found in the forest, approximately 10 minutes walk from the hotel Horník. The wells can be reached by following the green hiking trail that connects Tři Studně with Sklený.
The name of the Barborka well is connected with St. Barbara, which is the patron saint of forest wells and the name of the Vitulka well was created in honour of the young composer and conductor Vítězslava Kapralová. She often stayed at her parents’ house in the Three Wells. Here, in July 1938, she was visited by her teacher, the composer Bohuslav Martinů, who set the tradition of cleaning wells in this region to music in his cantata Opening the Wells. You can listen to this famous work every year on the last Saturday in May, when the beautiful Opening of the Wells festival is held at the wells.
