Pupil’s Mountain

Žákova hora near Cikháje is a valuable example of the long-term natural development of the mixed forest of the Žďár Hills. The rotation of beech, fir, maple and spruce on the site of the former forest has been protected since 1933.

The herbaceous undergrowth consists of typical species of flowering beeches: poison hemlock, nine-leaved and bulbous-leaved hawthorn, spicebush, European cinquefoil, knotweed, purple loosestrife. High-herbaceous beech woods are characterised by perennial pheasant’s beech, male fern, female fern, Fuchs’s fern. There are 55 species of birds nesting here, including the endangered black stork, the highly endangered wood pigeon, the rare black-headed flycatcher and the rousy tit. In the area between the Crooked Maple, Žáková hora and Devíti skály, the most deer game is concentrated in the whole Žďár Hills.
